In a celebration of Israel’s 77-year journey, the Hashayara Project, a vibrant ensemble of Israeli musicians from the Galilee, will bring the spirit of Israel’s Independence Day to the United States this spring. On April 27, 2025, the band will perform an unforgettable concert at the Gaines Theatre at Christopher Newport University.
More than just a concert, Hashayara’s performance is designed to create an intimate space for connection and shared experience. Audiences will be taken on a musical journey that weaves together beloved Israeli songs in both Hebrew and English, celebrating the nation’s pioneering dreams, achievements, and challenges throughout its history. With a mix of traditional classics and contemporary Israeli hits, the concert offers a powerful connection between Israel’s past and present.
“The performance is more than entertainment; it’s an emotional and cultural journey,” said Carmela Malkin Kuhn, Director of Education at the UJCVP. “Through their music and storytelling, we aim to deepen the bonds between Israel and our community, creating a shared space of hope, unity, and celebration.”
Celebrating Israel’s Story through Music Since its founding in 1948, Israel has been defined by resilience, innovation, and a diverse cultural landscape. Hashayara’s performance brings these elements to life through songs that capture Israel’s spirit — from the dream of the pioneers to the achievements of today. The band’s repertoire blends nostalgic favorites with fresh, contemporary pieces, inviting audiences to experience Israel in all its multifaceted glory.
The concert will also reflect the band’s dedication to community-building through music. The ensemble members are all accomplished musicians and educators from Dror Israel, an organization that works year-round to empower youth across the country. Their commitment to fostering an inclusive, united Israeli society through music is at the heart of the Hashayara Project.
Healing Through Music
In the wake of the tragic events of October 2023, Hashayara’s music has taken on new meaning. As Israel continues to heal from the challenges of war, their performances have become a symbol of unity and hope, reaching communities from the Galilee to the Negev. This upcoming concert marks a continuation of their mission to spread that message of healing and resilience, bringing people together through the universal language of music.
