In recent years, the world has witnessed a dramatic rise in anti-Jewish incidents and rhetoric. Antisemitism is one of the oldest and most pervasive forms of hatred, yet it is often misunderstood or overlooked in social justice work. This session will provide a historical overview of antisemitism, explore its modern manifestations, and examine its intersection with other forms of discrimination. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how antisemitism affects individuals and communities and learn strategies to identify, confront, and counter it. The workshop will emphasize allyship and solidarity, equipping attendees with tools to support Jewish communities and incorporate antisemitism awareness into broader justice initiatives.

Guest speakers include:

  • Eric Maurer, CEO of the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula
  • Meagan Starks, Director of Hampton Roads Programs at the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities
  • Dr. Amy Milligan, Director of the Institute for Jewish Studies and Interfaith Understanding at Old Dominion University

Join with the UJC Jewish Community Relations Council at the Hampton Roads Social Justice Conference at CNU.
