The Munich Olympics Massacre and the Israeli "Wrath of God" Campaign
with Guest Lecturer Capt Lee Mandel MD, USN (ret)

Join us on October 27 at 3 pm for the next Sunday Lecture when we welcome back Captain Lee Mandel MD, USN (retired). Since the 1980s Capt Mandel has researched the 1972 Munich Olympics Massacre and Israel’s response to that terror attack.
In his presentation, he will give the definitive account of these events and point out inaccuracies in popular culture accounts including the 2005 Steven Spielberg film, Munich.

A physician, career naval officer, and avid historian, Capt Mandel has published widely in both history and medicine. His biography of Rabbi Roland B. Gittelsohn, Unlikely Warrior: A Pacifist Rabbi’s Journey from the Pulpit to Iwo Jima, was the TBE Book Club June 2024 selection and TBE was honored to hear him speak on this book in person.
Capt Mandel has published and made media appearances on a range of topics including the Russian Revolution, the health history of President John F Kennedy, and the intelligence career of movie actor Sterling Hayden.

During his military career, Capt Mandel served on the staff of numerous naval hospitals, provided medical care to the US Congress, and served as Senior Medical Officer on three aircraft carriers. In addition to managing the medical care of a crew of 5500 on the USS Harry S. Truman, Capt Mandel organized the carrier’s weekly history seminars.
This setting was the first of many presentations of The Munich Olympics Massacre and the Israeli “Wrath of God” Campaign.

Special bonus for TBE members who are fans of Daniel Silva’s novels. Capt Mandel’s presentation will provide the real backstory of Israeli superspy Gabriel Allon.
