| March Madness
with Pirke-Pre-K Ms. Sharon and Ms. Renee

March
went by really fast for us Pre-Kers! We went straight from
Purim to Passover! We have been working hard on preparing
for Passover while enjoying the fun of Purim! We had great
performance for the Grand Club and enjoyed the carnival immensely!
We had our first backwards day, where Ms. Sharon wore her
hair backwards, read us a story from back to front while
sitting with her back to us! It didn't make too much sense,
but we had read the stories before. We started out with the
end of our day and worked backwards to the beginning of the
day! We ate with our backs to the table, said prayers AFTER
we ate, counted from 100 to 1 by singles, fives and tens!
We wore our clothes backwards and walked backwards all day
long! Many of us had our hair styled backwards, too! We wrote
our names backwards many times! I think the kids had a great
time with backwards day!
Ms. Sharon and Ms. Renee went to the teacher's conference
in Richmond and came back refueled, excited and with many
new ideas. We implemented them immediately! The kids have
responded VERY well to a new discipline procedure and I can
say that all the kids are behaving wonderfully now! I think
they like it a lot! We focus on the children behaving the
way they are supposed to, not the misbehaviors. When a child
is acting out, they are told “Stop, name, time to rethink.” Then
they remove themselves to a designated position and sit there
until they start to behave, then when directed, they rejoin
us. We practice “rethinking” all the time! I
am amazed when I say “Who wants to practice rethinking?” and
the entire class raises their hands! They are so excited
to practice. Rarely, do any of the kids actually find themselves
in a real rethinking situation. You should be very proud
of your kids!
We have been learning about spring signs and reading several books on spring.
We have been comparing and contrasting winter from spring. We compared 2 stories
about spring to see how they were the same and how they were different. We read
a book about a flower and made our own flower out of odds and ends. The children
REALLY had a great time creating their own flowers. We had flower cookies, plain
flowers, ET flowers, and everything in between. Several of the kids spent over
an hour working right through play time to create their own flowers! I was AMAZED
at their perseverance. Remember, that what might not appear to be anything to
us, could be a work of art for you child. Question your children about the paintings
that come home, art work and even worksheets. See what they remember, what they
might change, and see about their creation. They very well might have an entire
story related to what looks like a few strokes of paint. Your children have incredible
imagination that is evident in their buildings, drawings and creations. Capture
their excitement!
Several dates to look forward to for our Pre-K class:
1. Passover play on April 8th at 11:30am. Parents are encouraged to come. School
will close immediately following this event and reopen April 20th.
2. The week of April 20th, we will be celebrating the number 8. Please bring
one set of 8 for your child by Wednesday that week.
3. Also, April 28th, we will be having a pajama day. Please bring your child
in his/her pajamas, with sleeping bag or blanket and toy to sleep with.
Special thank you to Lauren Falk, Andrew Falk, Michelle Frank and Debby Davis
for coming to read to the class. Thank you to you all for allowing us to care
and teach your children! I hope that you have found it to be an educational
and fun year so far. As always, any questions, concerns or ideas are always
welcome!
