PARPARIM NEWS - Mrs. Naioki & Mrs. Olya

Team Parparim is at it again….We have been playing, singing, and jumping our way through the school year! This past month we have been focusing on the change in weather and change of season. We talked about how we change our clothing to warmer apparel. We also discussed the sounds of spring….birds chirping, bees buzzing, wind blowing, etc. For the month of Mach we made a “Weather Update” chart where each day we colored in a new block based on the weather outside. The children really enjoyed counting how many days it’s been: warm, sunny, cold, cloudy, foggy, rainy or snowy. By doing this activity with them we were able to discuss what was “more” or “less” as well as counting and reading a chart! We spent some time talking about Wind. How wind is invisible; we can’t see it but we can definitely feel it. We made kites for our classroom and cut out our diamond shapes all by OURSELVES!

As part of our spring unit, we began discussing the “Life Cycle of a Butterfly” since our class name is Parparim (butterfly in Hebrew). We went through each stage and discussed how the caterpillar and/or butterfly changes. We also learned how to say butterfly in different languages!!! After we finished talking about each stage we painted, with colorful shaving cream, a HUGE butterfly!!!! The kids had a blast and felt a lot of pride when I hung up our butterfly in the foyer of the preschool.

Along with discussing seasons, weather, and insects we also talked about Jewish holidays. We had fun making masks and reading stories about Purim. The children were introduced to King Ahasuerus, Queen Esther, Mordecai, and Haman! We made groggers, sang songs, and even decorated the class! Another holiday that we are currently discussing is Passover or Pesach. We are getting to know the story of baby Moses, who the Pharaoh was, and why we celebrate this holiday. We have made Matzah covers, colored seder plates and started to learn those fun songs!!

Thanks a Bunch!
