The month of March sure came in like a lion! We are definitely
ready for the warm sunshine to stay, and are looking forward
to spending more time outside playing!
We began the month talking about animals. It was definitely
the most captivating topic yet! We learned about bears
and zebras and monkeys, dogs and more. We sang “Animal
Action” and marched around the room acting like animals.
We enjoyed reading “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what
do you see?” The children loved acting like animals
as we acted out the story! Teddy Bear Day was a big hit!
I loved the variety of bears (and a dog, tiger and bunny)
that came to school to visit. Circle time was exciting.
The children taught the bears the Sh’ema and the
hello song, and the bears helped the children hang their
nametags and colored felt board mittens. ?
Purim was a great lesson too! We talked about King Ahasuerus
and Queen Esther. We learned new songs that included cheering
for Mordecai and stomping for Haman. The children loved
making lots of noise with their graggers, especially when
the name of Haman was mentioned! Together we made Hamentashen
in the classroom. What a yummy treat! It was so much fun
seeing the children enjoying themselves at the Purim carnival.
We continued learning about shapes this month. We finished
talking about squares and introduced triangles. Purim was
a great time to introduce triangles because of Haman’s
hat! We made a triangle collage, triangle fish and triangle
paintings.
We began focusing more on numbers this month. We introduced
number recognition, up to 5. At circle time the children
now have an opportunity to come up to the front and point
to each number while they count. We had lots of fun reading
number books and singing number songs. We also focused
on one specific number each day and created a number book
for the children to keep.
This past week we learned a lot about spring! We talked
about the snow and cold weather going away. The children
made buds for our classroom bulletin-board-tree. I am confident
that the buds will lead to beautiful leaves very soon!
? The children made their own blossoming trees too, out
of construction paper and popcorn. We talked about some
of the signs of spring- warm weather, flowers, buds, frogs,
bees, butterflies and rain. We read books about spring
and learned new songs about spring.
We celebrated three birthdays this month. Happy March
Birthday to Sophie, Marissa and Lilly, you sure are getting
big! And we had a special visit from Max, one of our old
school friends! What a wonderful surprise!
