About
Us
Since
1948 the United Jewish Community of the Virginia Peninsula has operated
a preschool. We are currently located on 25 wooded acres in the
Winterhaven section of Newport News. Our facility has four classrooms
each with its own bathroom and an exit directly to the outdoors
for fire safety. There is a fully equipped outdoor playground and
an indoor gymnasium which is used for rainy day activities. We offer
preschool for children ages 2 through 4 and a full day Kindergarten.
Before and after care is available for our students. Each of our
classes features a low student-teacher ratio.

Statement
of Philosophy |
Children
learn best in a safe, nurturing environment. Our school’s goal is
to provide developmentally appropriate experiences to foster the growth
of the whole child. Emphasis is placed on play and interactive learning
to promote the social, emotional, academic and physical development
of each child. Cognitive, creative and physical activities are planned
to foster daily growth. An environment is provided that seeks to promote
positive self esteem and social interaction. Our teachers strive to
provide constant encouragement and praise, not only for the child’s
products but also for the processes that he or she goes through in
obtaining them.
As a Jewish school, we instill in our children values as well as opportunities
to practice basic religious observances. The lessons we learn are
those found in the Old Testament which is the foundation of our heritage. |
Our
school welcomes children from all religious, ethnic and racial backgrounds.
Our families are important resources, and we encourage their participation
in our Early Childhood Program. |
